COACH for Kids Bus
COACH for Kids is a service of Cedars-Sinai hospital that provides free healthcare and heath-education to Los Angeles’ underserved communities. The backbone of this service is a fleet of state-of-the-art mobile medical busses that travel regularly to schools, shelters, public housing developments and neighborhood facilities.
Cedars-Sinai asked me to redesign their very dated busses, with a set of very challenging design criteria:
1. The graphics on the bus needed to clearly represent the program’s offerings so that non-English and non-literate community members would be aware of the service.
2. The bus had to be free of white space to discourage tagging.
3. The bus had to be free from any gang-associated colors: red, green, blue, purple.
To accomplish this goal I hired Christian Robinson, an amazing children’s book illustrator who grew up in the community we were serving. Together, Christian and I concepted the illustrations and turned them into the look for COACH as well as for the entire Cedars-Sinai Pediatric department.
